Despite a vast number of government programs, and a long history of advice from the international community, Ukraine still lacks a holistic agenda, because the main economic stakeholders active in Ukraine have never been directly involved in the definition of the needs and priorities. As EU and international trade negotiations and European integration process are moving forward, such an agenda is becoming indispensable. Thus there is a need to create a group of ‘wise men’ to assist the Ukrainian authorities in defining and implementing the economic reform agenda and the policy for international and EU economic and trade negotiations.
The YES Ukrainian Economic Advisory Council aims at defining the economic reform agenda and the priorities for EU trade and economic negotiations, and lobbying and advising the Ukrainian authorities on its implementation. The Council will operate as an informal advisory group gathered by YES. It will propose and promote concrete policy solutions on specific issues of Ukraine’s economic transformation. The Council will comprise well-known Ukrainian business leaders, foreign/European investors, independent think tank experts, and the representatives of the international financial institutions. The members will act in propria persona with a right to designate up to two persons for the Working groups’ meetings.
The Council was officially launched at the 4th Yalta Annual Meeting. A plenary session on Free Trade Area dealt directly with this issue and could be seen as a first step in the official creation of the Council and a way to promote it.
