Ukraine President Viktor Yanukovych & Israel President Shimon Peres to Open 8th Annual Yalta Meeting

The 8th Yalta Annual Meeting entitled “Ukraine and the World: Common Challenges, Common Future”, organized by the Yalta European Strategy (YES) in partnership with the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, will take place in Livadia Palace, Ukraine from 15th to 18th of  September 2011.

President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and President of Israel Shimon Peres will open the Annual Meeting on September 16, and other confirmed speakers include: Mykola Azarov, Prime Minister of Ukraine; Aleksandr Babakov, Vice Chairman of the State Duma, Russian Federation; Carl Bildt, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden; Mevlut Cavusoglu, President, Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe; Jürgen Fitschen, Member of the Executive Board of Deutsche Bank; Stefan Füle, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy; Keirat Kelimbetov, Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Kazakhstan; Andriy Klyuev, First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine; Borys Kolesnikov, Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine; Javier Solana, EU High Representative for CFSR (1999-2009); Larry Summers, Director of the White House National Economic Council for US President Barack Obama (2009-2010); Strobe Talbott, President, Brookings Institution.  Chrystia Freeland, Global Editor-at-Large of Thomson-Reuters, will moderate the discussions.

More than 200 leaders from politics, business and society representing more than 20 countries will discuss major global challenges and their impact on Europe and Ukraine.

Participants of the 8th Yalta Annual Meeting will address the new world architecture in re-shaping as well as opportunities and challenges for investments in Ukraine; the ways to rebalance the global economy. Also the major topics for discussion will be relations between Ukraine, EU and other countries of the region, and also the visions of Ukraine’s future in the globalized world. The forum will discuss Russia’s role in global processes and international relations, as well as models of the country’s modernization.

The YES Annual Meeting is the largest and most influential nongovernmental platform to discuss and look for potential solutions on most actual political and economic issues for Ukraine, Europe and the world and also to engage in an open and professional dialogue on most pressing issues of politics, economics and society. The last year President of Ukraine Victor Yanukovych and President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski opened the 7th Yalta Annual Meeting. Since 2004, the Annual Meetings have brought together leading decision-makers such as Carl Bildt, Tony Blair, William J. Clinton, Joschka Fischer, Stefan Füle, Leonid Kuchma, Aleksei Kudrin, Shimon Peres, Gerhard Schröder, Javier Solana, James Wolfensohn and others.
