The use of blockchain technology can help to avoid overregulation and boost the democratization of many spheres of life. This is the idea articulated by co-founder of the Ethereum Platform, Vitalik Buterin, at the 15th Annual Meeting of the Yalta European Strategy (YES) “The Next Generation of Everything”, organized by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.

“It allows people to cooperate, sign contracts without collecting all the data in one place. Users receive and share data, but no one person has full control ... Technology brings about dramatic changes in many areas. Like the Internet, it contributes to democratization,” he said.

However, while Vitalik Buterin highlighted the number of positive use cases of blockchain technology, he also noted its use on the black market poses a risk to its future.
