Israel Ex-President Peres Says Ukraine’s Future is in Science and Innovation

Ukraine should invest in its future by developing science and innovation rather than “searching over the ashes of the past,” said former Israeli president Shimon Peres today at the 12th Yalta European Strategy (YES) Annual Meeting on 11 September 2015 in Kyiv.

In a wide-ranging discussion with YES founder Victor Pinchuk and Tony Blair, the former prime minister of Great Britain, Peres spoke of how Ukraine can become a force for global stability even in the current volatile global climate by developing areas where the country has deep resources, such as science and technology.

“You should follow the path of the science, as science has no borders and limits… Do not attempt to solve the problems of the past, I do not know if this is possible at all,” Peres said. He added that the people of Ukraine are the best asset for the future of the country.

“I will not offer you any political solutions as those would require extensive negotiations,” Peres advised. “Put a stress on the future by developing in areas of science. You may even be surprised as you would become stronger than you think and some of the conflicts that you have now, will go away.”

The 12th Yalta European Strategy Annual Meeting is streamed live at yes-ukraine.org as well as web-sites of the Media Partners in English and Ukrainian.

The official Twitter of the 12th YES Annual Meeting is @yes_ukraine, and participants and followers can include the hashtag: #YESUkraine2015.
