Margus Tsahkna has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia since 23 July 2024. He previously held several ministerial roles, including Minister of Foreign Affairs (2023–2024), Minister of Defence (2016–2017) and Minister of Social Protection (2015–2016). He was a member of the 11th and 12th Riigikogu from 2007 to 2015 and a member of the 13th Riigikogu from 2017 to 2019. Earlier, he served as Secretary General of the Pro Patria and Res Publica Union (2007–2010). Tsahkna began his political career as an advisor to the Pro Patria Union factions in Tartu City Council (2002–2003) and the Riigikogu (2003–2006), before becoming a member of Tartu City Council (2004–2007). He joined Eesti 200 in 2018, where he is a board member, and was previously a member of Pro Patria Union and Pro Patria and Res Publica Union. Born in Tartu on 13 April 1977, Tsahkna studied theology, religious studies and law at the University of Tartu from 1996 to 2002, and international law at the University of Toronto in 1999–2000.
